The provider is hoping to take advantage of what is predicted to be a rapidly growing market for CDN services.
Analyst firm Frost & Sullivan believes that Latam’s CDN market is poised for high growth over the next five years, with applications like over-the-top video still in the early stages of adoption. It is projected that as broadband infrastructure improves across the continent application adoption will increase along with it.
"Throughout Latin America, people are spending more time on the internet purchasing products and downloading videos, music and games, and they want their experience to be simple, fast and seamless," said Leonardo Barbero, Level 3's CMO and SVP for Latin America. "Companies throughout the world can tap into this rapidly expanding market and grow their businesses by leveraging Level 3's personalised service, flexibility and performance of our CDN service."
Chilean multimedia streaming company, Grupo Z, has begun using Level 3’s CDN platform to deliver some of its largest events, including music festivals and soccer matches.
"As the demand for instant access to online content continues to grow, CDN network performance becomes increasingly critical to providing a world-class viewer experience, and Level 3's CDN platform allows us to quickly scale to meet that demand," said Christian Avalos, general manager of Grupo Z.
In April Level 3 announced that it had more than doubled its CDN capacity to 5.6Tbps and was offering services the Latam cities of Buenos Aires, Argentina; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Medellin, Colombia.
