Pacnet delivers additional trans-Pacific capacity to NEC BIGLOBE

Pacnet has announced that it is delivering additional trans-Pacific network capacity between Japan and the US to Japanese ISP NEC BIGLOBE.

BIGLOBE has partnered with the carrier to directly connect its data centre in Japan and the Any2 Internet Exchange in Los Angeles with an Ethernet International Private Line (EIPL) service over the EAC Pacific subsea cable system.

Through the agreement, BIGLOBE aims to improve the experience of customers connecting to US-based social networks and cloud services.

“We are delighted that BIGLOBE has chosen Pacnet to deliver additional connectivity between Japan and the US. With the growing demand for cloud services and content services outside of Japan, we look forward to further opportunities to help BIGLOBE improve the internet experience of their users,” said John Garrett, president of carrier services at Pacnet.

EAC Pacific is part of the $300 million Unity cable system Pacnet built in partnership with Bharti Airtel, Global Transit, Google, KDDI and SingTel.

Pacnet operates two of the fibre pairs in the cable system independently as the largest investor in Unity. The two pairs stretch over 9,600km and provide up to 1.92Tbps of capacity across the Pacific Ocean.

The carrier also announced yesterday that it had connected to Amsterdam Internet Exchange, AMS-IX, its second European peering point after establishing a connection with the London Internet Exchange (LINX) in 2011.
