E-Plus selects ZTE for LTE deployment

KPN’s German unit E-Plus has selected Chinese vendor ZTE to play a more substantial role in its forthcoming LTE network expansion.

E-Plus had previously been working with ZTE for the expansion of its UMTS network, modernisation of its core network and for LTE field trials.

This cooperation will now include the first phase of the E-Plus LTE network roll-out with ZTE providing both LTE base stations and its evolved packet core for the deployment.

“This year E-Plus will launch a demand-driven LTE expansion under the motto ‘Smart LTE’. This will continue our user-oriented and economically targeted network expansion strategy,” said Andreas Pfisterer, CTO at E-Plus Group.

“The achievements of recent years have shown that ZTE is a suitable partner to pursue this strategy efficiently and successfully, for both the customer and the company.”

The deployment will use E-Plus’ existing HSPA+ grid, utilising the 1800MHz band.
