The demonstration was conducted with China Mobile at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and used ST-Ericsson’s LTE multimode modem to connect to Ericsson’s LTE FDD/TDD converged network and mature IMS (IP multimedia subsystems) platform.
“The technology readiness and commercial availability of the system, platform and terminals of TD-LTE that we demonstrated here is a strong testimonial of the maturity of a converged end-to-end TD-LTE ecosystem,” said Mats Olsson, president of Ericsson North East Asia.
“Ericsson is determined to work continuously with China Mobile and operators around the world to drive globalisation and commercialisation of TD-LTE.”
VoLTE enables a higher audio definition with low power consumption. The drive for mobile HD voice services is increasing with 61 mobile networks already running HD voice services in 45 countries, according to reports.
The announcement follows Ericsson’s recent partnership with O2 to build and manufacture its 4G LTE network in the UK.
