The company has partnered with real estate firm Mapletree Industrial Trust for the construction, and expects the data centre to provide high-quality interconnection services to business customers in the country.
The data centre will be situated in close proximity to Equinix’s existing SG1 data centre and both will be interconnected through a dedicated fibre network, designed to enable SG1 customers to use the Equinix platform to expand their businesses.
“Equinix is committed to catering to the increasing demand for data centre and interconnection services in Singapore,” said Clement Goh, managing director at Equinix South Asia.
“Our new data centre will help our financial and cloud customers drive new business and collaboration opportunities, improve performance and reduce operational cost with low latency and high proximity.”
The IBX data centre will reportedly cover 385,000 square feet and is scheduled to open in the second half of 2014.
The launch demonstrates Equinix’s commitment to providing global data centre coverage, following its announcement earlier this month to open a second IBX data centre in Seattle.
