German-based DE-CIX started implementing its Apollon interconnection service in preparation of increased demand for peering services and said it will be operational by December 2013. Traffic is said to have increased between 50% and a 100% consecutively over the last 10 years thorough the DE-CIX platform.
DE-CIX will use ADVA Optical Networking’s technology, providing transport speeds of up to 2Tbps for each fibre pair.
The German exchange operator will also utilise four supernodes, positioned throughout the Frankfurt metro network, from Alcatel-Lucent.
"DE-CIX Apollon's interconnection capabilities represent the largest interconnection architecture in the market, enabling clients to not only peer but establish immediate dedicated capacity connections with other global service providers," said Harald Summa, CEO for DE-CIX.
The company provides carrier-neutral internet exchange services for leading players such as China Telecom, Facebook, Google and Telefónica.
