In a joint statement, the companies said that Airtel's cable would provide data connectivity for the telecommunications arms of Reliance Industries utilising a dedicated fibre pair.
The i2i cable, wholly owned by Airtel, consists of eight fibre pairs, each capable of supporting multiple terabits of capacity, and spans Chennai in India to Tuas in Singapore.
The connection is designed to enable Reliance Jio Infocomm to extend its network reach in the region, and connect the company directly to major business hubs and ISPs worldwide.
Reliance Jio Infocomm -- owned by one half of the Ambani brothers duo, Mukesh -- and Bharti Airtel said they would continue to build on the "strategic framework" of their relationship and will consider other areas of collaboration in the future, according to Reuters.
Earlier this month, brothers Mukesh and Anil Ambani signed a deal for 4G services with their respective companies Reliance Jio Infocomm and Reliance Communications marking the end of a long-term feud.
