Qatari operator Ooredoo and Norway’s Telenor were yesterday announced as the winning bidders in Myanmar’s spectrum auction award.
Orange was, however, revealed as the back-up applicant for one of the licences, should the successful bidders fail to meet the requirements requested by the Myanmar government.
In a statement, the French operator said it was proud to have been retained as a reserve applicant and that it is well prepared to rise to the challenge should it need to.
Orange claims it has built extensive knowledge of Myanmar and its network infrastructure, and believes it is in an ideal position to contribute to the sectors development.
Orange's bid was in partnership with Japan's Marubeni Corporation.
