The company has also announced a similar launch in the Caribbean, and it follows on from its successful introduction of IPX services in Amsterdam in June 2011.
The service allows IPX providers and other mobile operators further access to securely peer IP traffic at a local level.
Both developments, located at AMS-IX Hong Kong and AMSIX Caribbean offer tailored inter-IPX peering platforms based on local market conditions.
HGC has partnered with AMS-IX Hong Kong to provide the IPX peering platform from its facilities in the continent, while customers peering on the platform in Curacao can access the service directly.
AMS-IX claims to be the first exchange service to introduce the service, focussing on IPX providers.
The company says it hopes the development will eventually mean the distinction between mobile and fixed networking will
gradually disappear.
The service is designed to provide accessibility between different regions, for IPX networks to efficiently link together and cover more content, territory and volume.
“As mobile traffic is growing fast around the globe and the number of 4G deployments grows, an inter-IPX service at AMS-IX Hong Kong and AMSIX Caribbean is valuable to its customers,” said Job Witteman, CEO at AMS-IX.
“It responds to the business needs of local mobile operators for exchanging more content and volume with critical business partners.”
Andrew Kwok, president of international and carrier business at HGC, said launching the inter-IPX service in Hong Kong was a crucial development in coping with growing demand for mobile peering.
“As global operators develop 4G and LTE roaming, the move also facilitates the roll-out of HD voice services for communications service providers.”
