The centre, which is certified by Uptime Institute as the first Tier IV constructed facility in Asia and North Africa, was unveiled during a press conference to mark the occasion.
Khalid Al-Kaf, Mobily's MD and CEO of Mobily, said that the data centre in just one in a long line of those already implemented, while a further 18 are expected to be rolled out throughout Saudi Arabia over the next five years.
Once completed, Mobily’s data centre offering will stretch to 65,00Sqm, with a total capacity of up to 162,50kW.
It is said that Uptime Institute experts tested the Melgha II’s cooling systems, Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPSs), electrical switch gears, water chillers and generators to confirm its fault tolerance.
An increase in the number of data centres is part of a long-term strategy to expand Mobily’s infrastructure footprint and increase revenue and profit growth.
