The two companies installed and activated 8Tbps of long-haul, super channel optical capacity on the network, which equates to simultaneously streaming 1.6 million HD films in both directions.
The capacity was activated 19.01 minutes after plugging in the first line card and was deployed from Vancis in Amsterdam, the Netherlands to GlobalConnect in Hamburg, Germany, on the GÉANT backbone.
“We know that service providers are facing increasing capacity demands at a multi-Terabit scale," said Geoff Bennett, director of solutions and technology at Infinera.
"Our ability to turn up a full eight Tbps of capacity in less than 20 minutes clearly demonstrates the superiority of the Infinera Intelligent Transport Network in meeting those challenges, allowing service providers to use time as a weapon to increase revenue.”
Infinera used its DTN-X platform for the delivery of transmission capacity and earlier this year, partnered with Interoute for the same platform.
