The partnership is designed to deploy services such as HD voice and video, as well as voice over IPX (VoIPX), in further global markets.
It also marks a movement towards MNO collaboration across the industry, allowing the companies to capitalise on the latest technology innovations.
“As we see more mobile operators introducing next-generation IP-based communication services, global IP interconnectivity between networks is vital to delivering the highest quality end-to-end service experience,” said Christian Michaud, SVP of product and business strategy for global voice solutions at Tata.
“Through [the agreement], we continue to expand our global community of interconnected mobile operators across Asia and Africa, providing the broadest global reach across emerging markets.”
The interconnection will be based on Tata’s IPX+ connectivity platform, supported by the company’s global fibre-optic cable ring, and PCCW hopes to facilitate further distribution of VoIPX to its customers as a result of the deal.
“We have been one of the pioneers of next-generation IP-based networks, which enable us to deliver improved voice quality and greater cost efficiencies to our customers via VoIPX,” said Ronnie Klingner, president of voice solutions at PCCW Global.
“The collaboration with Tata Communications further extends the coverage of our existing 40 direct VoIPX mobile networks.”
Ahead of Capacity Eurasia in Istanbul, Turkey earlier this week, speakers at the i3 workshop confirmed the importance of VoIPX growth in the industry.
“VoIPX is today a reality,” said Fatiha El Afghani, head of VoIP and IP convergent services at Orange, and member of the steering committee at the i3 forum.
