Alexandre Filipe da Fonseca, CEO at Oni, said in a statement yesterday that the MVNO is expected to support the roll-out of a fixed-mobile convergence offer.
“We want to be present in the mobile sector and MVNO is the first step towards this," Fonseca said.
Fonseca also told reporters that it was unfortunate that the MVNO concept had to been stalled by Portuguese regulation.
Cable and telecommunications firm Altice acquired Oni earlier this year, and the Portuguese company reportedly plans to triple its profits by the end of 2014 through a number of potential mergers and acquisitions.
