Telstra expands global footprint and improves subsea network

Telstra Global has today announced the launch of four new PoPs in Europe and the US, in addition to a partnership with Infinera to upgrade capacity on its three cable systems.

Telstra increased its global MPLS network reach with the launch of new PoPs in Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam and Chicago. The move brings its number of PoP’s worldwide to 1,900.

“Directly connected to the Telstra Global MPLS backbone, the new infrastructure addresses increasing customer demand for connectivity into Asia-Pacific and will help multinational organisations gain greater competitive advantage in their global operations,” said Noujaim Baldwin, head of connectivity and platforms portfolio at Telstra.

The partnership with Infinera, also announced today, intends to upgrade capacity on long-haul submarine cable systems on key routes of the Telstra’s network.

Infinera will enable 10G, 40G, and 100G ethernet and optical transport network (OTN) services.

The upgrades will be deployed on Telstra’s 9,000km Endeavour cable connecting Sydney and Hawaii, the 9,000km-reach North Asia loop cable connecting Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and Japan, and the Asia America gateway cable connecting Hawaii with California.

"We are continually developing our network to meet customers' requirements, and this is just one of the projects we are working on to ensure our network is always growing, improving, and providing world-class services," Telstra’s COO Darrin Webb added.
