Tata will deploy Ciena’s optical platform and GeoMesh system to enable 100Gbps across Tata Communications’ TGN-Pacific and Intra-Asia submarine fibre networks.
“Investments such as the 100G upgrade to our TGN-Pacific submarine cable and Intra-Asia routes enable us to meet customer demand for high-bandwidth services and applications, whilst ensuring end-to-end network performance for our enterprise and carrier customers across the US and Asia,” said Genius Wong, senior VP of global network services at Tata.
The company claims to be the first private subsea cable owner that has deployed 100G across major routes around the world on its own infrastructure.
It will also allow Tata to meet increased bandwidth demands with lower latency and scalability.
Alan Mauldin, research director at TeleGeography, estimates that trans-Pacific bandwidth demand will increase seven-fold by 2020, making such upgrades increasingly necessary in the market.
