Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its microwave packet radio (MPR) solution, in order to complete the all-IP conversion of Cable & Wireless-owned LIME’s network by the end of Q1 2014.
“Our commitment to grow customer relationships and lifetime value by delivering unparalleled customer experience is based on choosing and delivering the best ICT technology solutions,” said Carlo Alloni, group CTIO of CWC Group. “All of our clients will experience an improvement in LIME’s wireless networks and for business customers, the faster and more-secure data access will help support the growth of their enterprises.”
LIME’s upgraded system will act as backhaul for its existing wireless networks and will also increase its capacity and speed, notably improving customer experience to the islands LIME serves.
The network will also allow LIME to deliver next-generation mobile broadband services, such as LTE.
“Across the Caribbean, we are building an optimised and intelligent transport network for LIME that will provide better wireless voice and data access immediately, while also supporting future growth to 4G LTE,” said Hector Nava, sales director for the Caribbean and central America at Alcatel-Lucent.
LIME signed an agreement in October last year to deliver cloud-based services to Jamaica’s ministry of science, technology, energy and mining (MSTEM).
