Under the terms of the five-year agreement, Huawei will deliver a number of network enhancement projects, including products and services for Vodafone’s radio access networks in 15 countries: the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Romania, Czech Republic, Hungary, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, South Africa, Mozambique, Lesotho, DRC and Ghana.
“Huawei is honoured to have been entrusted by Vodafone with this global project,” said Eric Xu, CEO at Huawei. “Over the last few years, together with Vodafone, we have successfully demonstrated the performance, reliability and efficiency of Huawei’s SingleRAN. We look forward to working on this extension of our longstanding strategic relationship, which reflects the increasing demand for high-quality mobile broadband networks we are seeing globally as 4G grows in popularity.”
Huawei added that through its SingleRAN solutions, Vodafone will be able to support wireless communication services on a single network infrastructure for multiple mobile communications standards, including 2G, 3G and LTE.
Under the Project Spring programme, Vodafone is planning to invest up to $7 billion on improving its global network.
