Under the agreement, Tata will deploy a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) PoP in Istanbul, designed to connect customers in Turkey and neighbouring countries to Tata’s MPLS and Ethernet networks.
“It not only provides west Asia with a gateway to developed markets around the world, but also fosters enhanced trading relationships with geographies such as Africa and south east Asia using Tata Communications’ extensive global network reach,” said Radwan Moussalli, MD and regional head of Middle East, North Africa and Turkey at Tata Communications.
MPLS is a standard technology for speeding up network traffic flow and making it easier to manage. The PoP in Istanbul is the latest expansion in Tata’s global connectivity reach.
“Strategic partnerships with global players such as Tata Communications are central to our strategy to provide resilient and reliable connectivity in the region,” said Emre Erdem, managing wholesale director at Turkcell Superonline.
“We have invested in creating a 32,000 km fibre network within the country to transform the traditional silk route into the Middle East, central Asia and Europe into a 'fibre expressway',” he added.
Yesterday Tata announced a partnership with Saudi Telecom Company (STC) to launch a dedicated Middle East Content Delivery Network (CDN).
Meanwhile Turkcell has expressed an interest in entering the Pakistani market through the upcoming spectrum auction in a meeting with Pakistani government officials earlier this week.
