First launched in May this year, the Equinix Cloud Exchange is an advanced interconnection solution that enables seamless, on-demand and direct access to multiple clouds and networks worldwide.
Cloud and IT service providers account for a quarter of Equinix’s business in Asia-Pacific, and the launch is expected to accelerate growth in the region.
“Generally speaking, Asia-Pacific is more conservative than other regions in terms of adoption of the public cloud, as issues around security, compliance and traceability are traditionally top of mind for customers,” said Samuel Lee, president at Equinix Asia-Pacific.
“However, by utilising direct access via the Equinix Cloud Exchange and bypassing the open, crowded internet with its unavoidable risks, businesses no longer have to compromise on these essential requirements when accessing cloud providers,” he added.
The Equinix Cloud Exchange is designed to eliminate bottlenecks associated with existing cloud access across the public internet, and provide a secure path for businesses to access cloud services.
The Equinix Cloud Exchange is now available in 16 markets worldwide – Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Silicon Valley, Washington DC, New York, Toronto, Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, London, Amsterdam and Frankfurt – and further expansions are planned for the end of 2014.
Earlier this month, Equinix partnered with US vendor Ciena for on-demand, virtual networking capabilities.
