Al Mamari replaces Amer Awadh Al Rawas, who has moved to the oil and gas sector in Oman, and his position is effective of June 29 2014.
Prior to his appointment, Al Mamari held the position of CFO at Omantel. He chairs a number of internal committees, as well as sitting on the board of several different companies and investment funds.
“Talal Al Mamari possesses the capabilities and skills needed to lead the company in the next phase and we are confident as board of directors of his ability to work closely with the executive team and other stakeholders to realise the company’s strategy and objectives,” said HE Engineer Sultan bin Hamdoon Al Harthi, chairman of the Omantel board of directors.
In March this year, Omantel partnered with Ooredoo to launch a new subsea cable linking Oman and Qatar, and Al Mamari said he was looking forward to maintaining Omantel’s status as a leader in the country.
“Omantel is one of the largest companies in the Sultanate and the second-largest listed company,” the new CEO said. “Omantel has been playing and will continue to play an important role in the development of our beloved country.”
