The two companies have struck a framework agreement over three years, to focus on a range of research for broadband technologies including XG-PON, NG-PON2 and G.Fast.
In a signing ceremony in Brazil, the two companies agreed to partner on ultra-broadband projects at the joint laboratory and innovation centre.
The agreement extends an existing relationship between the companies, and ZTE is presently the biggest provider for ultra-broadband network solutions to TIM Brasil. They have been collaborating on network deployments in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro since 2012 and in 2014, ZTE enhanced the collaboration with the Brazilian operator after being invited to participate in tenders for the deployment of other major broadband projects.
“ZTE is delighted to partner with TIM Brasil to develop broadband technologies of the future,” said Yu Xin, VP of ZTE. “ZTE is committed to investment in innovations in next-generation broadband technologies, which will be fundamental in the development of future telecommunications and information technology services.”
TIM Brasil’s network covers 3,400 cities and approximately 95% of the country’s urban population.
