Speaking at a conference in Los Angeles yesterday, Shammo said that the company had been inspired by AT&T’s sale of its tower assets to tower firm Crown Castle last October.
“The AT&T deal was a good deal for them,” Shammo said. “It opened our eyes and we said ‘OK, maybe there is a way to get through this and protect our interest and get a deal that is palatable to us’.”
He also said that the Verizon wanted to protect its ability to expand its network when necessary.
Last month, Verizon announced plans to launch VoLTE HD voice calls, making it the fourth major US carrier to do so.
