The demonstration builds on an existing partnership between China Mobile and Huawei, and follows the vendor’s announcement last month that it had secured 35 new VoLTE contracts.
The Huawei Cloudified VoLTE solution runs on Huawei’s servers and cloud operating system, and the demonstration featured NFV-based core network elements, such as virtualised IP multimedia subsystem (vIMS), a virtualised evolved packet core (vEPC) and virtualised subscriber data management (vSDM).
With carriers moving away from traditional service architecture, NFV is expected to help operators to deliver a more satisfactory end-user experience by shortening the service innovation period, reducing operating and maintenance costs, and establishing a more open industry chain.
In October last year, Huawei, KPN and China Mobile completed an IMS VoLTE roaming call.
