Swisscom adopts Ericsson Network Manager

Swisscom has adopted Ericsson’s next-generation unified network management tool, Ericsson Network Manager (ENM), in its 4G LTE network.

The ENM is designed to provide operators with a common view of network resources and services and Swisscom is the first operator to go live with the system.

“Ericsson is a long-time trusted partner for Swisscom,” said Patrick Weibel, senior architect wireless at Swisscom.

“We have chosen to adopt Ericsson Network Manager early to provide feedback on its functional development and also leverage the Ericsson Network Manager’s capabilities that are critical to our network and operational transformation.”

The service from Ericsson also includes a virtual network function manager (VNFM) and advanced analytics applications, and is due to be available for all Ericsson LTE customers and markets in 2016.

“We are delighted to reach this milestone together with a leading operator such as Swisscom,” said Jan Häglund, head of product area network analytics and control at Ericsson.

“The latest Ericsson Mobility Report forecasts that mobile data traffic in Western Europe will grow nine times between 2015 and 2021, and Ericsson Network Manager is a great example of how Ericsson's technology leadership can help operators transform and thrive, both in this advanced market and globally.”

Earlier this month, Swisscom extended its strategic partner market agreement with Vodafone by a further four years.
