The six fibre pair ATISA cable will stretch 280km, connecting the islands of Guam, Saipan, Rota and Tinian.
The cable is due for completion in early 2017 and is expected to enhance connectivity between the four islands in the Pacific. NTT DoCoMo has contracted NEC to deploy the cable.
"Today marks the beginning of a new era in communications connectivity between Guam and the CNMI. Project ATISA was born out of the collective desire of elected leaders, business owners, and most especially, our customers to bring transformative change to our islands' infrastructure," said Jonathan Kriegel, president and CEO at DoCoMo Pacific.
