The deal follows similar agreements for ETECSA with Verizon and Sprint in September and November of 2015, respectively. Verizon also struck a wireline voice services agreement in March.
AT&T said it would announce pricing and availability details later this year for the deal.
Traditionally, calls and texts between the US and Cuba had to be routed through other countries due to trade embargoes imposed following 1959’s Cuban revolution. However, US President Barack Obama announced that diplomatic relations had been restored in December 2014.
“Cuba is a growing international calling destination for our customers,” said AT&T global connection management EVP Bill Hague. “With this agreement, AT&T customers soon will be able to seamlessly connect with talk, text and data while visiting Cuba.”
