Retelit to deploy Coriant’s 100G tech

Italy’s Retelit has selected Coriant’s 100G technology to upgrade its nationwide, ultra-high capacity transport network.

The Italian provider of data and infrastructure services to the telecommunications market has chosen Coriant to enhance the end-to-end delivery of high-capacity, low latency 100G services connecting Europe and Asia through the Asia Africa Europe 1 (AAE-1) landing station in Bari, Italy.

Coriant’s optical transmission solution will enable Retelit to satisfy increasing demand for high-bandwidth services and provide a more resilient, 100G-enabled terrestrial transit network for end-user traffic traversing Europe and Asia via Retelit’s AAE-1 subsea landing station. Retelit’s network project will serve as the backbone for AAE-1 transit traffic.

In November, Retelit’s Giusseppe Sini stressed the importance of meeting the demand for interconnection and told Capacity: “When the project begins service in Q1 2017 it will provide 25,000km of subsea cable with an initial design capacity of at least 32 to 40Tbps, interconnecting Asia, Middle East, Africa and Europe. AAE-1’s landing station establishes this Eurasian route through Bari, on the mainland of southern Italy.”

Richard Fellner, regional vice president of EMEA at Coriant, added: “The launch of AAE-1 will unleash new demand for high-capacity, low latency terrestrial transit across Italy. We are pleased to be a strategic technology partner with Retelit and help them capitalise on emerging market opportunities with a best-in-class solution and unmatched service excellence.”

The news comes after Windstream selected Coriant to support the delivery of 100G data centre interconnect (DCI) services in the New York City metropolitan market.
