This marks Hurricane Electric’s first PoP in the Eastern European country and comes as the company tries to meet the IP transit demands of thousands of enterprises across the European Union.
IoT growth is expected to contribute an estimated 20 billion internet connected devices globally in 2018, further increasing the demand for high-bandwidth around the world. Locally, Bratislava has seen significant growth in the tech sector and is ranked third among its European counterparts in housing fast-growing start-ups.
“Hurricane Electric is delighted with the continued growth of our global network through this new Point of Presence and we remain committed to further expanding across Europe in 2018,” said Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric.
As a result of the new PoP customers in the Sitel data centre and others in the area now have a range of new connectivity options plus the ability to improve fault tolerance, load balancing, congestion management and transit of next-generation IPv6 traffic. Tenants at the facility are also able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s global network, which offers over 20,000 Border Gateway Protocol sessions with over 7,000 different networks via more than 180 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.
“Because the region is so well connected, Slovakia has proven itself to be an important technological hub for Central Europe and beyond. Our newest site will allow customers of the Sitel data center to tap into the bandwidth and reach of Hurricane Electric’s rich global network and we are grateful for the opportunity to support them,” added Leber.
Additionally, the new Slovakian PoP provides access to Hurricane Electric’s extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100 Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports resulting in both new and existing customers being able to experience increased throughput, reduced latency and improved reliability.
Earlier this year Hurricane Electric boosted its high-speed internet services in the north eastern United States by establishing a new PoP at the Maine Fiber Company. The PoP is located at Westland Avenue in Portland and is Hurricane Electric’s first to be established in the state.
