Jim Clarke has been appointed as director of global carrier sales at Telstra International. He will be responsible for driving sales strategy and business development across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, the US and Australia. Clarke has 13 years’ experience in the telecoms industry, including four years at Telstra Wholesale and four years at WorldCom International.





Verizon Communications has appointed Lowell McAdam as president and CEO, transferring from the same role at Verizon Wireless. McAdam will be responsible for the operation of Verizon’s network-based businesses and providing a centralised focus on accountability for all business groups. He will have control of Verizon Wireless, Verizon Telecom and Business and Verizon Services operations.




Takashi Tanaka has been named as president of KDDI Corporation, replacing Tadashi Onodera in December. Tanaka will remain senior VP of solutions and consumer businesses and product development until then. Tanaka joined KDDI in April 1981 and has held numerous posts at the company, previously heading the company’s wireless broadband operations.





Nokia has appointed Stephen Elop as president and CEO. He replaces Olli Pekka Kallasvuo, who has held the position since 2006, and Elop is charged with heading the company’s transformation as it sets out to compete with Apple and Google. Prior to joining Nokia, Elop headed Microsoft’s business division, and has held positions in numerous US software companies, including Juniper Networks.
