Global fixed broadband connections to reach 720 million by 2015

The number of fixed broad band lines will reach 720 million worldwide by 2016, according to research from Analysys Mason.

Developed markets such as Europe, North America and parts of Asia- Pacific will make up the majority of fixed broadband lines but greatest growth will come from emerging markets such as central and Latin America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, north Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.

Emerging markets will provide the greatest potential for growth over the next five years, increasing at an estimated 13.7% CAGR, compared to 3.9% CAGR in Europe, developed Asia-Pacific and North America. By 2015, emerging markets are predicted to account for 28.5% of global fixed broadband revenue, compared to 17.2% in 2009. This will cause the total revenue percentage of all fixed broadband connections in developed markets to fall from 67% to 54% over the next five years.
