Wireless network operators increase operations in fixed-line broadband market

As mobile markets continue to mature and mobile subscriber rates decrease, an increasing number of wireless network operators are moving into the fixed-line broadband market, according to Telegeography.

France’s second largest operator, SFR, has 4.6 million mobile broadband subscribers, accounting for 22% of France’s broadband market. Telegeography notes the operator had almost no broadband subscribers in Q1 2007 but has built this business through acquisitions and organic growth.

Although SFR’s impact on the broadband market has been the most rapid, a number of European operators have made plays, moving away from traditional business models.
