A Buddecomm report on telecoms, IP networks, digital media and forecasts, finds that Denmark boasts the highest broadband penetration rate in Europe. Government proposals include enabling 50Mbps of broadband access to 80% of households by 2013 and 1Gbps access to most households by 2020. These high rates result from cross-platform competition, user demands for increased internet and IP-based services and a regulatory regime which promotes access to the incumbent’s fixed lines. Buddecomm anticipates increased competition among Denmark’s operators as voice revenue continues to decline. The country’s four operators secured 2.6GHz licences in May 2010, which will enable them to offer 4G services based on LTE and Wimax.
