Analyst firm Infonetics Research found that services, including video, voice and internet, earned North American operators $245.5 billion in revenue in 2010, an increase of 2.1% from 2009.
Voice is still the predominant earner but by 2014 the market is expected to be shared more equally with internet earning 30%, voice earning 36% and video earning 34% of overall revenue.
Consumers in the region are gradually converting from cable to telco IPTV, meaning that revenue from video services will rival that of voice services by 2014. The figures for new cable subscribers were flat in 2010, while the number of IPTV subscribers in the region increased by 40% from 2009 to 2010.
The number of subscribers to mobile broadband reached 15 million in 2010 – almost double the figure from 2009 – and is expected to near 70 million by 2014.
