It’s also been a year in which consumers have begun to take ubiquitous access to the internet for granted, and a year which has left some carriers contemplating where they should try to fit in what is an increasingly complex jigsaw puzzle.
In our 2010 Yearbook we consider many of the developments and issues the industry is debating in order to keep costs under control and to find a profitable path for the years to come. We look at how next-generation networks will evolve as carriers seek ways to make their networks flatter and more intelligent. We consider the capital markets, and where in the telecoms world investment and consolidation are likely to occur. We look at the likely hot technologies of the coming year, and the wholesale challenges germane to particular geographies around the world.
As ever, Capacity has joined forces with many of the companies working at the forefront of the telecoms market. These companies look at what it will take to light up Africa, now that the continent is served by subsea cables, the potential impact that globalising Ethernet services might have in a carrier business and why cloud computing provides compelling new revenue opportunities for carriers.
The Yearbook also gathers together the analysis and research that Capacity has collected over the past year as well as its briefings on new technologies. In 2009 telecoms was something of a shining light amid the economic darkness, let’s hope it continues in 2010.
