Xi launched late last year to become Japan’s first LTE wireless connectivity solution and presently covers Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, with plans to reach 70% of the Japanese population by 2015. NTT has partnered with Gemalto to use its Universal Integrated Circuit Cards (UICC), specifically designed for LTE to add more security and reliability to DoCoMo’s multimedia services. DoCoMo’s customers are renowned to expect a high quality of service and the company has stringent quality and performance specifications.

Gemalto has developed a range of solutions in the security space and partnered with a range of wireless operators, banks and enterprises to offer authentication services, smart banking cards and developed solutions for machine to machine communications.
DoCoMo expects more than 15 million of its mobile subscribers will be equipped with LTE UICC by 2014.
