Named WiFi Mobilize, the platform will allow carriers to optimise network investments and integrate a global WiFi network into a carriers portfolio and address the growing demand for data services among customers.
“WiFi has re-emerged as an essential service for network access,” said Michael Wilkens, SVP International Business at Deutsche Telekom. “Through this partnership we are in a unique position to provide an industry platform and enable a market place in the carrier’s world for the global exchange of WiFi traffic and inter standard roaming, helping our third party operators meet the expectations and satisfy end user demand.”
iPass aims to provide enterprise mobility services to facilitate access from any device to any network, and the company offers domestic and international WiFi roaming services for telecoms carriers. Within this deal, the iPass Open Mobile platform provides authentication and other value added services on top of the carriers own WiFi infrastructure to offer international roaming in more than 500,000 commercial grade WiFi hotspots.
“As more and more data moves to the cloud, users expect to be always on, and always connected, yet the complexity of standards and relationships put excessive burden on the users,” said Even Kaplan, CEO at iPass. “With iPass Open Mobile, Deutsche Telekom can deliver a service that enables carriers worldwide to seamlessly connect users to multiple networks, and deliver a compelling user connectivity experience.”
