Verizon Wireless is launching its 4G LTE network in nine additional areas of the US as well expanding its existing 4G LTE infrastructure in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, New Orleans and Philadelphia.
The nine additions to Verizon’s network include adding coverage in specific areas of Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, North Carolina and Texas.
Verizon Wireless’ CTO David Small commented: “We’re now offering consumers and businesses in 55 metropolitan areas the most advanced 4G wireless network on the planet.”
Users will now be able to use speeds of up to ten times faster than that experienced on the company’s existing 3G network. Verizon believes 4G LTE users will experience speeds of 5-12 Mbps on the downlink and 2 -5 Mbps on the uplink. Verizon’s 200 MHz spectrum allows the company to operate a continuous, nationwide network license.
Verizon Wireless introduced its LTE network in December 2010 covering more than 110 million people with continued plans for expansion. The company claim their network is the world’s first large scale LTE network and is on course to deliver 4G LTE to its entire 3G wireless footprint by the end of 2013.
