The country code- 888- will be used between UN agencies providing humanitarian aid when and where disasters occur. The UN will have the means to assign specific numbers to different aid agencies.
The agreement authorises Voxbone to supply the code, assigned by the ITU, to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Rod Ullens, CEO of Voxbone said that agreements such as this will help expand the safety net of humanitarian aid during a natural disaster. “In such trying times, it’s imperative that the UN agencies able to help the most can communicate with one another quickly and get all the necessary assistance moving to affected areas rapidly,” he said.
