The ACMA said that the decision to sell the spectrum bands together was due to the strongly complementary nature of the two in serving sophisticated next generation mobile telecommunications needs. It claimed that the reallocation of the spectrum will help operators meet customer demands caused by surging levels of mobile data.
ACMA chairman, Chris Chapman said: “These are important steps towards meeting the community’s increasing demand for mobile broadband and opening the door to new services being delivered to the public.”
License holders have been invited to comment on the terms of the recommendations before they are finalised.
