OpSource will become part of its centralised Dimension Data Cloud Solutions Business Unit, which has just been created and will report into Dimension Data’s CEO, Brett Dawson. The development will see Dimension Data accelerate its offerings in cloud computing services, as part of “a long-standing strategy to become a services-led business”, according to Dawson.
Dawson said: “Over the last few years, Dimension Data has been building cloud-related skills and capabilities in all the areas of virtualisation, data centre and storage, managed services and hosting, and IT outsourcing – all critical to enabling cloud architectures for our clients.”
Some might have seen this coming, as NTT Group has been gradually strengthening relations with OpSource for years now.
Back in 2008, the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation first entered into a strategic alliance with the cloud and managed hosting solutions provider. In 2009, it made a 5% investment in OpSource, and since then it has “aggressively pursued its collaboration with OpSource as part of an increased strategic focus on developing a global cloud business”.
OpSource’s public cloud platforms are already hosted in NTT America’s data centres, and there were pre-existing plans to expand them into NTT Europe’s data centres in the autumn of 2011.
