NSN has announced an agreement with the Skolkovo Foundation for Development of the Center of Research and Commercialization of New Technologies. NSN is already conducting research and development around active antenna systems in the Foundation’s Sistema-Sarov science park.
Main areas for development include cloud computing, machine-to-machine (M2M), applications for smart devices, and telco and web 2.0 convergence. The Smart Lab will collaborate with Russian operators, handset manufacturers, and internet and handset applications developers.
“We are committed to developing future-proof technologies in Russia,” said Kristina Trikhonova, head of Nokia Siemens Networks, Russia.
The Skolkovo Foundation is a non-profit organisation and aims to “provide socially useful results in the developments of innovations”. One of its key areas for development is energy efficiency and energy saving. It is also promoting innovation in space technologies in the field of telecommunications and navigation systems.
The agreement will be extended to incorporate some of NSN’s other research and development initiatives. Its Wireless Competence Center at the University of Nizhni Novgorod will be moved to Skolkovo in 2014.
