The cost per megabit has decreased across all regions and technologies including DSL, cable and fibre.
In Latin America, there was a significant price drop of 40% across all technologies, followed by North America and Canada which dropped 35%. Prices in western Europe decreased by 26%, in eastern Europe by 25% and in Asia-Pacific by 19%.
The report notes that consumers still perceive speed or downstream bandwidth are an important feature when they are looking for internet providers, but in reality most residential customers do not need more than 50Mbps per day.
More homes are being connected to fibre worldwide, meaning that ISPs will be expected to offer more for less money.
