The Global Network Operations Centre (GNOC), which is located in the south-western Russian city of Voronezh, hopes to centralise network operations for regional operators and has already begun collaborating with Mobile TeleSystems (MTS).
The centre will host up to 500 technicians and is expected to be eventually capable of managing up to 100,000 network elements across Russia.
Armando Almeida, head of Global Services for Nokia Siemens Networks, said the global trend of operators outsourcing their network operations is “gaining momentum” in Russia:
“Our GNOC in Russia is our fifth globally, and will help operators in the country and CIS to outsource their daily network operations and maintenance tasks. This will allow them to focus on their core business activities such as improving service quality and increasing business profitability,” he added,
The facility is designed to operate multi-vendor networks and will be interconnected to Nokia Siemens Networks’ other GNOCs which are located in India, Portugal and Brazil. This network of GNOCs remotely handles close to 180 million network alarms and generates over 185,000 performance reports every month.
“This is the first such network operation centre established by any telecoms vendor in Russia to provide a full range of services. Operators in the region now have access to operations from a reliable telecoms vendor with a strong local presence and significant international experience of managing multivendor networks,” said Kristina Tikhonova, head of Nokia Siemens Networks in Russia.
