The company is bidding to enhance its data centre hosting capabilities by providing connectivity into its regional cable infrastructure. Leading engineering consultancy company, Meinhardt, has been appointed to implement the infrastructure design and data centre specialist company New Tech will construct the DLS.
It launched its first DSL in Hong Kong in November 2010, and the company said its latest landing point addresses the growing requirement for data centre capability in the region. The new tier 3 facility will have the capability of supporting 800 racks and a load of 3 MW in its initial phase.
“Our DSLs in Tseung Kwan O are unique data centre facilities in Hong Kong, with direct access to our subsea cables as well as terrestrial connectivity,” said Wilfred Kwan, CTO at Pacnet. “Customers are recognising these advantages and our second DLS here in Hong Kong will enable us to meet the growing demand, while enhancing Hong Kong’s position as a strategic location in our regional data centre expansion plans.”
It is likely other operators will tap into Pacnet’s carrier neutral DLSs, considering its EAC-C2C subsea cable provides onward connectivity across Asia and into the US.
