The new company, Telekom Austria Group M2M, will focus on the development and marketing of M2M services and will initially concentrate on industries such as automotive, consumer electronics, health care, logistics and transportation, retail and security.
In the long term, the group hopes the company will go onto provide customers with M2M expertise along the entire value chain, from product design to the implementation and operation of M2M solutions.
“We are facing a very promising development of the M2M business. In a couple of years it will be absolutely common, that cars, domestic appliances, service centres and applications are connected to each other online. In this framework of a highly innovative field of business we position ourselves as an enabler of new business models,” said Hannes Ametsreiter, CEO of the Telekom Austria Group and A1.
Interest from carriers in the M2M sector has continued to grow, and in July Austria Telekom’s European rivals, TeliaSonera, France Telecom-Orange and Deutsche Telekom signed a co-operation agreement to provide an increase in the service quality and interoperability of M2M communications (click here).
