Quantix, based in Nottingham in the UK, is a cloud services provider, the purchase of which when fully integrated will give Interoute additional managed application services to add to its existing unified computing and managed hosting portfolio. Interoute will in particular be able to use Quantix's OraCloud platform to cloud-enable and manage the database applications of its international customers.
Quantix, an Oracle platinum partner and developer of SQL solutions, only addresses the UK enterprise market at present, so Interoute’s next step will be to extend the reach of these new services around Europe.
Interoute has already made headway in the business services market this year, most notably with the buyout of Visual Conference Group in March, as it seeks to reinforce an image of being more than just a provider of wholesale network capacity. In line with many other major network operator names, it has recognised the need to get added value out of its fibre assets, and chosen managed services as the quickest route to this end.
“We started several years ago on the plan of making inroads into the enterprise, to supplement our service provider business,” claimed Gareth Williams, Interoute CEO. “Service provider business alone makes insufficient use of our no legacy, all-IP network. We’ve been winning big enterprise names for the last two or three years, and our ‘ground to cloud’ extends this strategy into the cloud. I see the running of corporate databases as becoming a commodity before long, like power or providing back-ups.”
Speaking of the possibility of further acquisitions, Williams said “Well, we’re always looking. But with two acquisitions this year, I think it will be mid 2012 at the earliest before we make any further moves.”
“We have built a strong and loyal customer base in the UK, which we will continue to serve as usual,” said Quantix MD Simon Goodenough. “By joining forces with Interoute we are now able to take our services across Europe.”
