Telstra International has launched a suite of global conference solutions based on IP for users to conduct enterprise net audio and video conferences on a unified platform. The company said it expects the new solutions will boost network utilisation, reduce monthly off-net voice telephony expenses and increase workplace productivity. A total of three services have been launched, working on a pay per use basis and it also offers an IT chargeback strategy, providing user reports on service trends. The services have been named: Global MeetMe Conference, Global Premium Conference and Global Web Conference.
Technology solutions provider Huawei has collaborated with Russian providers Transtelecom, Rostelecom, Vimpelcom and Megafon in testing 100G technology in the region. The company has demonstrated 2000km of ultra long-haul 100G coherent WDM technologies in its testing centre in Russia, and the company believes it marks the beginning of Russia’s commercial applications of 100G WDM transport networks. 100Gbps signalling is more adaptable to fibre and has the capacity to deal with bandwidth capacity on WDM systems, and Huawei claims Russia is in constant need of such of a solution because of its vast land area and high penetration.
US data centre provider Telx has entered into a non-exclusive channel partnership with west coast data centre operator Colocation America, which allows the company to interconnect with any of Telx’s carrier neutral facilities. Under the agreement, Colocation America will allow its customers carrier-neutral connectivity and collocation in Telx’s neutral data centres in eight US states. Albert Ahdoot, business development director at Colocation America believes a direct connection with Telx’s 950 carrier, ISPs, media, content and enterprise companies that sit within its ecosystem is a main advantage of the partnership.
Verizon Wireless has announced it is deploying a Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution from Motive, a division of Alcatel-Lucent to manage the increase of devices using its 4G LTE network. According to Alcatel-Lucent, MDM solutions allows 4G LTE devices to receive software upgrades and updates automatically, which further optimises the power and speed of 4G devices. Verizon first introduced its 4G LTE network in December 2010, and has rapidly expanded coverage to over 165 markets to cover half of the American population.
Hong Kong-based PCCW Global and Cyta have extended their partnership to develop Ethernet services in a bid to improve international network connectivity coverage and services in more than 70 countries. The agreement means both companies can provide a range of additional Ethernet services, working across respective MPLS networks and aiming to address a rising demand for international connectivity from its customers. For PCCW, the deal gives the Asian operator an additional reach across the Mediterranean through Cyta’s extensive network in the region and extends its partnership with the company.
Asian carrier StarHub has partnered with EZ-Link and DBS to develop Near Field Communication (NFC) services. The collaboration is part of a wider consortium which has been selected by the International Development Association (IDA) to develop an interoperable mobile NFC infrastructure and mobile payment services in Singapore. StarHub said more than 1000 participants tested the NFC services, jointly organised by DBS, EZ-Link, Gemalto, MasterCard and StarHub and the three companies expect to launch their operation in mid-2012.
The ITU Telecoms World 2011 event began on Monday in Geneva, with the Broadband Commission for Digital Development already agreeing four fresh targets for countries worldwide. The new targets cover broadband policy, affordability and uptake, and ITU plans to rank the progress of countries worldwide through an annual report. The first target aims to establish a universal broadband policy by 2015, while the second looks to make broadband more affordable, particularly in developing countries through adequate regulation and market forces.
Bandwidth connectivity solutions company AboveNet has unveiled a new finance services link between Interxion’s data centre in the city of London and a key multilateral trading facility in Slough. AboveNet said the new route delivers the lowest latency connections essential for performance efficiency and productivity, and caters to the demand from the financial markets by providing a scalable and secure solution. The company’s London network claims to link all major financial regions and extends into every major London data centre and exchange, built on carrier platforms with 1Gbps and 10Gbps connections.
Virgin Media Business has been selected by the UK’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) to support its business phone lines through a hosted call management system. The deal is worth £6.7 million over three years, and it is expected the operator’s business network will handle over 20 million calls a year. The solution will route all of DVLA’s incoming calls and allow it to manage call routing plans in real time. DVLA said, through Virgin’s 186000km fibre optic network, the agreement allows it to connect more sites to its network quickly.
