The Bogota data centre will provide security and data centre services and is one of three to be deployed on the continent.
The 1,000 square metre facility is part of the company’s wider expansions in the continent, as demand for services becomes more apparent in Latin America. BT have already announced plans to build a satellite technology and services centre based in Rio de Janeiro and an IP-telephony and contact centre in Mexico City.
Jeff Kelly, CEO BT Global Services said, “Latin America is showing great dynamism and ability to grow in the face of a turbulent global economy."
BT had previously announced a contract signed with Ecopetrol, Columbia’s largest company and Colombia’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies, which will support a program to deliver internet connectivity to hundreds of schools, hospitals and other government buildings.
