Huawei said the trial is the highest capacity connection to ever be transmitted across the Atlantic Ocean, and is in keeping the Hibernia’s high-speed cable deployment schedule between the transatlantic. The company is also planning to deploy two additional 100Gbps connections between Halifax and Montreal and Amsterdam and London by early 2012, followed by other routes to be deployed later in the year.

"The carrier, multi-media and enterprise industries all require high capacity at 100Gbps level to ensure high performance data transmissions.”
Through the partnership, Hibernia Atlantic has deployed Huawei’s 100Gbps single wavelength technology, which is designed to enable high capacity transport across a distance as large as the transatlantic. The companies noted the trial also successfully ran Huawei’s existing 40Gbps wavelengths at 50GHz, allowing for upgrades and downgrades to the connections.
"In partnership with Hibernia Atlantic, Huawei has developed the OptiX products with 100Gbps capability to address exponentially increasing bandwidth demand driven by cutting edge data services and high definition video," added Charlie Chen, SVP of marketing at Huawei.
The two companies have a long history of partnering together for similar projects, including a 40Gbps subsea connection between Europe and North America.
