Global Capacity’s One Marketplace Access Exchange platform is used to generate automatic quotes on a case by case basis. From now on it will provide customers with automated access to customised Ethernet pricing, in addition to other types of service.
Information generated is based on customer-specific requirements, such as location data, supplier rates and design and engineering rules that are unique to that customer, eliminating the manual process of generating quotes, said the company.
“We are seeing a real shift in market demand toward Ethernet,” said Julie Dillenbeck, vice president of carrier relations for Global Capacity. “Entering 2011, Ethernet quotes made up less than 1% of total quote demand run through One Marketplace Access Exchange, but over the course of the year, we have seen Ethernet quotes double in volume, and we expect Ethernet quotes to account for 40% of total quote demand in 2012.”
She claimed that what Global Capacity provides vastly improves a company’s response time to customer requests and reduces their back-office costs.
“One Marketplace Access Exchange was designed and built to improve efficiency, while effectively streamlining and optimising the pricing, procurement and provisioning of access network elements,” said Greg Hough, EVP of global network strategy for the company. “As the industry evolves and moves toward more advanced and universal transport protocols, One Marketplace has evolved to meet this demand. Our current Ethernet capabilities provide just a glimpse into what our future capabilities will become.”
He said operators will soon have the ability to interconnect to the One Marketplace exchange, enabling Ethernet services to be quoted, ordered and provisioned through a single platform: “This dynamic will facilitate revenue growth by exposing on-net Ethernet services to automated market demand, while improving EBITDA performance through lower operating expenses.”
“Ethernet is one of the remarkable success stories of the telecoms industry over the past 10 years,” said Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. “From a standing start in 2001, Ethernet services revenue earned by service providers was already a $26 billion market in 2010 and we expect it to grow to $49 billion in 2015.”
